Brass Protector Offering Cup: Eight Auspicious Symbols & Eight Auspicious Substances in Low Relief Serkyem for Golden Drink Offering

Exquisitely carved from brass, this protector offering cup features eight auspicious symbols in low relief on the cup and eight auspicious substances on the plate. The rim of both the cup and plate is adorned with a brass decorative pattern.

A Serkyem, also known as a Dharmapala offering, consists of two pieces—a chalice and a basin—for ritual offerings to Protector deities. Typically filled with tea, wine, and tsok substances, the serkyem symbolizes continuous protection and the propagation of dharma teachings. In Tibetan, 'ser' means gold and 'kyem' means drink.

The eight auspicious symbols of Tibetan Buddhism—endless knot, victory banner, wheel of dharma, parasol, golden fish, treasure vase, lotus, and conch—symbolize offerings made to Shakyamuni Buddha after his enlightenment.

The eight auspicious substances—right-coiling conch shell, yogurt, durva grass, vermilion, bilva fruit, mirror, precious jewel, and white mustard seed—each hold auspicious significance in the propagation and demonstration of the Dharma.
