Oxidized Copper Serkyem Protector Cup with Eight Auspicious Symbols - for Golden Drink Offerings to Buddhist Protectors

This oxidized copper protector offering cup features intricate carvings of the eight auspicious symbols on the cup and the eight auspicious substances on the plate in low relief, with brass decorative patterns on the rim.

A Serkyem offering, or Dharmapala offering, is used in rituals to honor Protector deities. It consists of a chalice and a basin for offerings like tea, wine, and tsok substances, symbolizing the continuous protection and propagation of dharma teachings. In Tibetan, "ser" means gold and "kyem" means drink.

The eight auspicious symbols—such as the endless knot and golden fishes—originally from India, signify offerings made by gods to Buddha after his enlightenment. The eight auspicious substances—like the conch shell and yogurt—commemorate Dharma's rise, teaching, and its power and benefits.
