Tibetan Copper Vajrapani Gau Box Amulet Pendant - Classic Design Mini Shrine Altar Ghau Gawu in Red Copper from Yachen Gar, Available in 2 Sizes
This Copper Gau Box features a classic Tibetan design with a central statue of Vajrapani, adorned with floral motifs, wish-fulfilling jewels, and a Garuda ornament. Designed and commissioned by Yachen Gar in Kham, Tibet, it bears the monastery's emblem incised on the back cover.
Vajrapani, one of the eight great bodhisattvas and lords of the three families, symbolizes the power of the buddhas. Typically depicted in blue and holding a vajra, he is known for transmitting the tantras to the human realm, earning him the epithet 'Lord of Secrets'. This epithet also denotes his role as the lord of the guhyakas, or yakshas.
Gau, also known as Gawu or Ghau in Tibetan, refers to an amulet box that holds precious objects such as small sculptures or relics. When filled with religious contents, these boxes are believed to protect the wearer and serve as portable shrines. The central window of the amulet often displays a small statue or thangka.
Yachen Gar, also called Yachen Orgyen Samten Choling, was founded by Akhyuk Rinpoche in 1980 and is renowned for hosting over 10,000 Sangha members, making it one of the world's largest gatherings of nuns and monks.
